The solution

SEA-Invest was facing an issue with the large-scale bulk storage of bentonite in a port area in Brittany. When bentonite comes into contact with water, it swells to between 10 and 15 times its original volume, and 6.5 times its weight in water.

Unloaded by cargo ships at the port of Montoir-de-Bretagne, SEA-Invest was looking for a fast, modular solution for the bulk storage of this sensitive material. The aim was to control the humidity inside the building in order to protect their raw material.

It was also necessary to be able to dismantle the storage hangars and install them on another site without damaging the platform.

Drawing on their experience, the SHELTERALL® teams installed 3 storage sheds measuring 25 m x 43.20 m, mounted on concrete blocks that can be moved. Assembled on 4 m TOUTABLOC® block walls, the sheds have a height at the ridge of 15 m, making it easier to handle the bentonite using machinery.

Despite the strong winds on this particularly exposed site, 19 m x 10 m automatic doors were installed to protect the materials. The modular and flexible SHELTERALL® storage solutions were exactly what SEA-Invest required and the customer is now considering similar projects near Nantes.
